Jimmy strikes again! July

Back to pulling up carpet, now where's Jimmy when you need him?

Step 1 - pull up horrible carpet and get Jimmy to work on those carpet grips.

Step 2 - Discover a beautiful wooden floor, which just needs a good sand and wax to bring it back to life.

Step 3 - in 💓with how good this floor looks.  It was a lot of work, which you will see in the next few posts, but so worth it!

The Bathroom Progresses - July

We can officially call our 'toilet room' a 'bathroom' now that our lovely new bath is in place!
Time to move on to the tiling.

It's great to see the room progress.

and fun to play with grout patterns...

and practice a bit of Parkour...!

And, finally, the shower can be installed...

Peeling Back to the Old Stuff - June

In order to fit a shower into a room that's never had one in its history, we needed to pull the wall down to add the necessary pipes.

So, this is what a 100 year old lath and plaster wall looks like on the inside, including horse hair in the plaster mix!

Persistence Pays Off - June/July/August

Our stairs have been a long, drawn out process and we've wanted to take the easy way out on many occasions, and just cover them up.

We are so glad that we persisted, though, as now they're looking fabulous...and we still have a few finishing touches left to add!

Let us know what you think?

Another job for Jimmy - June

Jimmy! June

Meet 'Jimmy' - one of our most useful tools.

He's what's more commonly known as a crow bar, or utility bar, and he's invaluable when you have metres upon metres of carpet grip to pull up!

Step 1: Pull up horrible brown carpet

Step 2: Lift the underlay to reveal beautiful wooden floor boards

Step 3: Get Jimmy to work on those carpet grips

Step 4: Have a good clean up

Step 5: Stand back to admire the floors and realise that we now need to hire a floor sander...

Evolution - June

One thing we've learned while renovating is that, sometimes, you have to let things evolve naturally.  The stairs are a great example of this.  We have debated taking them back to natural wood, painting them black and white, putting in a runner or adding vinyl stickers.

Watch this space to see the final look...

The Bathroom Moves On - June

Today we said goodbye to the teeny tiny sink, and hello to a proper sized, traditional sink.  The bath has also arrived.

There are a lot of holes to fill - we may just need to buy more filler - but time for a nap in the new tub, first!

A Helpful tip - June

They say that every day is a school day, and they're right!

We learned a great tip on how to remove rawl plugs easily.

Step 1 - fasten a screw into the plug, just enough so it grips.

Step 2 - Pull out the rawl plug with the claw of a hammer.

Step 3 - note to self that sometimes a bit more plaster comes out than you'd like...

Step 4 - Fill the hole!

In Hot Water - June

So, today was pretty momentous, as we finally had our boiler fitted in the bathroom.

Which means we now have hot water!

Oh, and the tiny little sink has now gone, to make way for the newly recycled sink from a previous renovation project at home.

Next job is to get the bath in, so we can finally officially call it a bathroom.

A year on from going into Lockdown and we are finally getting excited to see what the future holds for the Secret Space. We thought we woul...
