Our Very Own Hole-in-the-wall! June

Now that is a big hole to fill!

The old boiler in the kitchen is finally gone and a new one installed in the bathroom.

A fair bit of patching up and painting later...and you'd never know it was there.

An Exciting Day - June

With Lockdown easing, we are finally able to get a plumber booked in to fit the boiler - albeit with social distancing guidelines being observed.

The house hasn't had proper running water for years, with only a tiny water heater to heat the kitchen tap.  The twenty year old boiler has provided heating only, the big water tank upstairs having been removed years ago.

So, this is an exciting day - the old boiler is coming out of the kitchen and a new one fitted in the bathroom, to make sure our guests get good power in their shower!

What a different atmosphere it is in our Space.  The normally empty house is filled with noise as the boys work, listening to two different radios, on two different stations upstairs and downstairs!

More Paint Stripping - June

Like the rest of the house, the banisters have suffered years of being covered with layer upon layer of paint.  

After a bit of heat gun action, it's awesome to see them start to look their best again.

Outside Area - June

We are lucky to have a courtyard, albeit currently filled with junk.  But, after a bit of shifting and cleaning, it's ready for some plants!

Fluff! June

Our next job is to sort out the dining room floor!

Step 1 - remove all the underlay that appears to have been spray-glued to the quarry tiles.

Step 2 - lots and lots of scraping!

Step 3 - it's very tricky to create a sharp and accurate pain line with such wobbly old skirting...

Levelling out - June

Sometimes you need to draft in a bit of help.

The boys, managing to level the hearth in the lounge - while still social distancing!

Dining Room Floor Revealed - June

Now you see it, now you don't!

Bye bye horrible burgundy carpet.

Finally the bedroom is bright and white!

Must fix that skirting board, though...

Miles of Tiles - June

Now that we've finished painting in the hallway, we are finally able to pull up the horrible brown carpet and grey, office-style entrance mat.

The rubber and glue has taken a while to remove - each of the tiles needing to be scraped off individually.  It's been a long process, but well worth it to see the lovely original flooring starting to shine.

Lockdown Meetings - May

We are missing our coffee catch-ups at the pubnext door due to Lockdown, but it's still great to catch up every now and then...on the stairs...
