Sanding begins. July

Although we love the antique look of our wooden floors and stairs, there are too many bare patches and different stains that have been used over the years to keep it in its current rustic feel.

So we booked ourselves a couple of industrial sanders to see if we can bring it all back to its former glory.  An interesting idea as neither of us have ever used one before!

Lessons learnt...

  • A proper face mask is vital - definitely not the little Covid ones!
  • Hold on tight as the machines are a bit frisky, and tend to run away from you.
  • Make sure all the nails are hammered in flush with the floor, so you don't shred the sanding pad.
  • Tighten all the bolts so you don't shred the sanding pad (notice a recurring theme?)
  • Follow the grain of the wood for best results - this is tricky in a cupboard, though!
But our most valuable lesson?
  • Make sure the bag is on properly!
We were nearing the end of our sanding journey and getting pretty tired.   It took a while to register where all the dust was coming from - we hadn't tightened the bag. By the time we realised, everything was covered in dust - including us!
